Guten Abend! Good evening! On the Feast Day of St. Ursula of Cologne, Germany, Casa Maria hosted an Oktoberfest-themed prayer, dinner and social this week with 25-30 people present from St. Mary’s. Deutschland-inspired desserts included apfel strudel (apple pastry), brezeln und lebkuchen (pretzels and spice cookies) and not-so-German chocolate cupcakes.

St. Ursula is the foundress of the Ursuline religious order and the patroness of Catholic education. It was fitting to honor this German saint tonight on a college campus while enjoying a deliciously “dry” Oktoberfest foods!

On the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary, nearly 30 St. Mary’s students, staff, faculty and guests joined the Marianists of Casa Maria to “think pink” and pray for a cure for breast and all cancers during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. After reciting a decade of the rosary, everyone partook in a spaghetti buffet and afterwards were treated to pink desserts: strawberry marshmallow rice cereal squares, pink ribbon candy lollipops and pink ribbon sugar cookies.
