Casa María replaces kitchen trash can
August 16, 2009Taking time to pause and reflect before responding, Brother Bob Jones, head of the community’s office of Religious Life, concludes, “This is an upgrade because since we don’t have to touch the lid, it saves us from
the
contagion of the
world.”
Bro. Brian Halderman, S.M., director of the Casa María Marianist community, demonstrates the features of the new kitchen trash can.
Replacing the old kitchen trash can was a topic of concern during the recent planning sessions. Today, that concern can be marked off as “completed.”
Featuring a swing-top lid, the new trash can allows brothers to dispose of items without having to touch the lid.
Rev. Tim Dwyer remarks, “having been conditioned by [former aspirant and current first year novice] Joe Janosik, he used to always say ‘[the trash can] is the most unsanitary thing we have in the house because you’re doing food all the time, you’re touching food and not going to wash your hands all the time,’ so [having this new trash can is] an upgrade.”
Taking time to pause and reflect before responding, Brother Bob Jones, head of the community’s office of Religious Life, concludes, “This is an upgrade because since we don’t have to touch the lid, it saves us from the contagion of the world.”
