The Marianist bicentennial icon made its first public appearance in the United States during a prayer service at the Casa Maria Marianist Community as part of the “Casa Tuesday” festivities Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Over 50 gathered at the community to pray with the traveling Marianist bicentennial icon then vote on a special election for the best presidential cookie recipe, a community tradition that was held in 2008 (scroll down about halfway) and 2012.

The icon is a special display that is part of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate (Marianist Sisters) and the Society of Mary (Marianist Brothers and Priests). It is traveling throughout the world where Marianists are located during the bicentennial period of May 25, 2016 to Jan. 22, 2018. Casa Maria community member Brother Brian Zampier, S.M., visited Mexico to pick it up and bring it to San Antonio.

The icon was displayed at the community chapel and visitors signed a guest book to record their visit. A social and supper followed the brief evening prayer when guests participated in a special cookie election featuring recipes from Melania Trump and the Clinton Family. The results of this election were 38-6 in favor of the chocolate chip cookie recipe, matching the national results collected by Family Circle magazine.
