Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off today on Dieciséis de Septiembre (Mexican Independence Day). During Casa Mariía’s celebration of Hispanic heritage, more than 40 St. Mary’s students, staff, faculty and friends joined the Marianists to honor the martyrs of Ciudad Real (feast day is on Sept. 18). Everyone enjoyed the chalupa dinner and desserts (chocoflan, carlota de limón and Mexican wedding cookies).

September 9, 2014Casa María observed the feast days of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sept. 8), the Most Holy Name of Mary (Sept. 12) and Our Lady of Sorrows (Sept. 15) with a special cake in her honor. More than 50 St. Mary’s students, staff, faculty, friends and Marianists indulged in a blue and white “polka dot” cake enrobed in white fondant and trimmed with “bling.” A shiny crown and letter M were additional dessert details on the cake fit for the Queen of Heaven!
Back to school with the brothers
September 2, 2014More than 30 St. Mary’s students, faculty and staff joined the Marianist brothers for a back to school celebration on the first Casa Tuesday of the new academic year. Following prayer and a buffet dinner of chili dogs, thematic desserts were served. Chocolate chalkboard cupcakes (in the collegiate colors of yellow cake and blue frosting) along with A+ apple cookies symbolized a sweet start to a successful school year.
Casa María hosts Labor Day barbecue with new charcoal grill

The brothers of Casa María celebrated the Labor Day holiday by hosting a barbecue for nearly 60 Marianists, family and friends of the community on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014.
Using a newly purchased charcoal grill outdoors in 100+ degree heat, the brothers barbecued 15 pounds of chicken and 64 hot dogs. “Not a single piece of meat was left over,” Bill Behringer, community director, said.
Following a holiday schedule, the brothers celebrated community Mass at 9 a.m. and the festivities began at 5 p.m. when guests arrived promptly.
Burgers with the Brothers 2014
August 26, 2014Nearly 600 students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the Marianists gathered for Burgers with the Brothers Tuesday evening, Aug. 20. Over 400 hamburgers, 200 hot dogs and 10 water melons were served at the lawn of Casa María during this annual event co-sponsored by Student Government Association, Marianist Leadership Program and the Marianists.
Agosto officially welcomed into community as aspirant
August 22, 2014Aspirant Trinidad Agosto officially was received into the Casa María Marianist community during the Rite of Acceptance as part of the celebration of the memorial of the Queenship of Mary of Friday, August 22, 2014. Rev. Bill Behringer, S.M., director of the community, presided at the Mass and offered the homily.
